and returning to Darwin
Access: 2 Wheel Drive on sealed and unsealed roads access
Start: From Darwin
Return: To Darwin in Northern Territory Australia
Highlights: Aquascene, George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens,
Adelaide River, Litchfield National Park, Florence Falls, Tolmer
Falls.
Day 1: Darwin Spend the day exploring some of Darwin's natural
attractions. Visit Aquascene, in the heart of the city, where hundreds
of fish can be hand-fed at high tide. Take a self-guided walk through
the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens. The gardens contain many
species of tropical plants, including orchids, bromeliads, cycads
and palms. End the day at the Deckchair Cinema, an outdoor cinema
where movies are watched in deckchairs under the stars. e.
Day 2: Adelaide River, Litchfield National Park Spend the
next two days following the Litchfield Loop tourism drive. On the
way stop at Adelaide River and visit the Adelaide River Railway
Station and Adelaide River War Cemetery to learn about the local
history. On arrival in the park explore Wangi Falls and enjoy an
easy walk around the falls. For the energetic, travel to Tolmer
Falls for a bush trek. Spend the night camping in the park or stay
in accommodation in Batchelor.
Day 3: Florence Falls, Tolmer Falls, to Darwin This morning
continue exploring the Litchfield National Park. Start the day with
a refreshing swim at Buley Rockhole or the spring-fed Florence Falls.
In the afternoon continue the loop back to Darwin.
Day 4: Travel from Darwin down the Stuart highway and turn
left around 45klm down and travel along the Arnhem Highway till
you reach the Fogg Dam Sign and turn left to the Harry Bowmans -
Adelaide River Crocodile cruise. Some 6klm down the turnoff from
the Arnhem Highway is Fogg Dam but if you continued on and followed
the hand made signs the road goes on for another 10 odd klms (or
so it seemed) to a dead end on an unsealed road..
From there turn right and the jumping crocodile cruise is located
on their private stretch of the Adelaide River at the end of Fogg
Dam Road. All in all it was about 75 minutes since you leave Darwin.
I then followed to the right on a dirt track form some 5klm to Harry
Bowmans - Adelaide River Crocodile cruise. So we received a special
once off private tour. Last we heard it was $43 for a adult and
$16 for a child with 4 cruises a day and the boat capivity is 30
folks. Cruise times are 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm Daily from May to November
Day 5: Darwin City Sights Spend the morning relaxing and
enjoy brunch at one of the many cafes or restaurants along Mitchell
Street or at Cullen Bay Marina. Spend the day walking around town
and taking in the sights. In Darwin city follow the Historical Walk
to discover the city's history and see Parliament House and Survivors
Lookout for a view accoss the wharf precinct. Just out of town take
a scenic walk along the coast of Darwin Harbour, past Mindil Beach
and the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.
