Southern Wonders - Wine and Forest Experience
5 Days and 4 Nights
Take the campervan but suggest 2 nights of the trip stay at Kiara
Valley Resort in the cabins
Day 1 Perth to Margaret River
The next 5 days are designed so you can combine the
fruits of one of the most sought after wine regions in the world
and the unique Karri and Jarrah forests of Western Australia. Rivaling
France and California as a premium wine growing region, the area
known as Margaret River is set against a backdrop of rugged coastline,
pristine beaches, pounding surf and towering forests.Today’s destination
is Margaret River, which sits in the middle of the wine region and
is a good base from which to visit several wineries as well as the
spectacular beaches of Yallingup and Prevelly. Suggested overnight
stay - Margaret
River Tourist Park - for motorhomes
Day 2 Margaret River
As most of the wineries do not open until 10am, we
suggest an early morning swim or walk along the shore. The short
drive out to either Eagle Bay or Meelup is well worth the effort.
As you work your way through the back country lanes past the various
wineries and their and their rolling hills covered with grapes,
follow the signs to any one of the approximately 50 wineries in
the region. All offer tastings and some will ship your purchases
home for you. Plan your day based the particular blends that suit
your palate or just follow your instincts, you can’t get lost. For
the evenings, take advantage of local chefs who combine the best
ingredients from the area to offer superb food to compliment the
local vintage. Suggested overnight stay - Margaret
River Tourist Park - for motorhomes
Day 3 Margaret River to Karri Valley Resort
You are now in the heart of this remarkable wine-growing
region with wineries too numerous to mention. As you head towards
Pemberton, make your lunch stop at one of the many wineries that
offer fine dining. As you leave the rolling vineyards behind you
will notice the increase in the dramatic size and grandeur of the
Karri and Jarrah Trees. There are many craft shops along the way
to sample the local crafts. Suggested overnight stay - Karri
Valley Resort.
Day 4 Karri Valley Resort
Awake to the sounds of birds and the gentle lapping
of water against your doorstep. You are deep in the forest and the
many walking trails are awaiting for you. A walk to Beedelup Falls
is a great way to start the day. Later try trout fishing, horse
back riding or a gentle canoe trip across the lake. The fresh air,
no matter what the time of year, is some of the freshest you can
ever experience. The Resort is also a great base from which to experience
the Pemberton region. The Tree Top Walk is only a little over an
hour’s drive away and well worth the scenic drive to experience
this world famous attraction. The Resort has a beautiful lakeside
restaurant which is a magic setting for your farewell dinner to
this beautiful part of the world. Suggested overnight stay - Karri
Valley Resort.
Day 5 Karri Valley Resort to Perth
As you make your way north back to Perth, there are
several opportunities to sample the local produce that are also
making these regions famous. Head inland through Harvey and Pinjarra
and marvel at the green rolling hills and variety of local fruit
and vegetables. Now that you have been touched by the natural beauty
of the south west of Western Australia and the wines it has to offer,
you will count the days until you can return.
